About Geometric Calculations

2D Shapes

  • Circle: Area = πr², Circumference = 2πr
  • Rectangle: Area = l×w, Perimeter = 2(l+w)
  • Triangle: Area = ½bh, Heron's formula for area

3D Shapes

  • Sphere: Volume = (4/3)πr³, Surface Area = 4πr²
  • Cylinder: Volume = πr²h, Surface Area = 2πr(r+h)
  • Cone: Volume = (1/3)πr²h, Surface Area = πr(r+l)
  • Prism: Volume = l×w×h, Surface Area = 2(lw+lh+wh)

Pythagorean Theorem

  • • For right triangles: a² + b² = c²
  • • Set unknown side to 0 to calculate it
  • • Only works for right triangles (90° angle)

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you calculate the area of a circle?

The area of a circle is π × r², where r is the radius. For example, a circle with radius 5 has an area of π × 25 ≈ 78.54 square units.

What is the formula for the volume of a sphere?

The volume of a sphere is (4/3) × π × r³, where r is the radius. This formula gives the total space enclosed by the sphere's surface.

How do you find the area of a triangle?

The most common formula is (1/2) × base × height. If you know all three sides, use Heron's formula: √(s(s−a)(s−b)(s−c)) where s is the semi-perimeter.

What is the difference between surface area and volume?

Surface area measures the total area covering a 3D shape's exterior (in square units). Volume measures the space inside the shape (in cubic units).
